These days, businesses world-over are facing serious public relations problem. The most prominent reason for this is the lack of business ethics in the workplace.

While discussing the term businesses ethics in the workplace, the first and foremost question one will ask is what are they? Is there any defined scope of businesses ethics in black and white? The answer to these questions is a big NO.

One can not tell what is ethically wrong or right as what may be ethical in one's perspective may not be the same in another's; the interpretations differ. The bottom line is that putting in place a legislation with regard to ethical behavior may be easy but implementing it is an uphill task. However, it is not impossible. There are managers and CEOs who have done it and so can you.

It is a unwritten rule that one learns ethics through observation. A child observes the parents; an employee observes the higher-ups. To get an employee to follow ethics, strict adherence of the same by the top-brass of a company is inevitable. The ethical behavior trickles from top-to-down.

The importance of ethical behavior in a business can not be over-emphasized. What a company has built in decades can simply be destroyed by a top level executive of the company in virtually no time Â- imagine someone high-up being caught publicly in a serious corruption, graft, favoritism, cheating or even telling lie on an important issue.

Ethics are all about making the choice that is going to benefit as many people as possible in a fair manner. It is not what is likely to benefit you or feels good at a particular time but what will have you have you stand in the right stead today, tomorrow and forever.
